Surgery for Piper

Piper’s Journey through Motherhood & Health Issues

Meet Piper, the supermom! She is sassy, snuggly, and unbelievably strong! Piper came into our care at Paws4ever with a litter of four kittens on March 9, 2024. She was an amazing mother and took care of those kittens with love. To our surprise, a few weeks into being with us, Piper unexpectedly had a kitten of her own! Our consensus was that she took on the original litter of four kittens thinking that they were her own while she was pregnant.

After giving birth to her own litter, Piper and her own kitten were placed with one of our fosters, Kristyn, where they could receive the attention they needed in a comfortable environment. Just days later, someone in Kristyn’s neighborhood found three 3-week old kittens. Unfortunately, their mother had been involved in a car accident. Piper’s own baby was only a few days older than the kittens they had just found. With our fingers crossed, we hoped that Piper would take these three kittens under her wing. She successfully did! Piper took care of her own baby (Sparrow) and the additional three kittens (Lark, Jay, and Finch) until they were old enough to be adopted.

Another situation fell into our hands when the grandmother of one of our staff members came across a litter of kittens alone at her farm. These five kittens were found inside of a cattle trailer, cold and hungry. Their mother was nowhere to be found. We brought the five of them into our care and introduced them to Piper. She took them in with no hesitation. She cared for yet another litter that was not her own, but loved them like they were. Piper is not only the epitome of motherly love, but also selflessness.

Not only did Piper take care of a litter of four kittens that were not hers, but also a child of her own, plus three more kittens, and finally a litter of five! In total, Piper has helped raise 13 kittens. We are so thankful to Piper for being “Mom of the Year” and also to our amazing foster, Kristyn, who was willing to take on all these babies as well!

Now it is our turn to support Piper! She has been in our care at Paws4ever since March of 2024. Recently, she has been having symptoms that indicate a larger health problem is going on. She’s been struggling with severe itching and vomiting. Over the last few weeks, we’ve been working closely with a veterinarian to help Piper feel better. After trying multiple medications and treatments without any improvement, the veterinarian has determined that Piper needs a biopsy of her intestine. This biopsy will remove a piece of her digestive tract to be tested in order to determine the root of the problem. This will allow us to nail down what health issue is causing this so we can move forward with treatment.

We are turning to you, our amazing community of supporters and animal advocates, to help us fund her surgery. In total, her surgery bill will cost around $1,300. She will be in recovery at Paws4ever afterwards. Please help us by donating at the link below. If you are not able to donate, we ask that you please share the link with your community. Please send thoughts and prayers to Piper for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery. Any donation, big or small, helps us to support this supermom of a cat and ensure that Paws4ever can continue to rescue and care for pets with medical needs.
