Considering adopting but not sure if you’ve found the right match? With PAWditions, you can bring one of our adoptable dogs or cats home for a week-long “tryout” to see if they fit your lifestyle.
Choose from our “cast of stars” (adoptable pets) and choose a lucky pet to take home with you for the week!
During your PAWdition week, you’ll get to know your furry friend in your own home and at your own pace. Does their behavior align with your daily routine? Do they get along with your other pets? Find out first-hand!
At the end of the week, you can choose to adopt, return, or discuss other options for your PAWdition pet with no pressure.

PAWditions FAQ
Which pets are eligible for a PAWdition?
Dogs and cats from Paws4ever who are at least 6 months of age and currently available for adoption are eligible to participate in a PAWdition.
How long does the typical PAWdition last?
A PAWdition is designed to be a short trial period, giving both you and the pet time to adjust and see how well you fit together. Most PAWditions last 7 days, which allows enough time for the pet to settle in and for you to experience their personality and behavior in a home setting.
What happens after the PAWdition is over?
At the end of your PAWdition, it’s time to decide whether the pet you welcomed into your home is the right match for your lifestyle. On the final day of the trial, we ask that you reach out to Paws4ever at adopt@paws4ever.org or 919-241-8438 x103 to let us know your decision and discuss next steps.
If you’ve fallen in love and want to make things official, we’ll guide you through finalizing the adoption so your new companion can stay with you permanently. If you need more time, you may be able to continue fostering the pet until you’re ready to decide. If it turns out that this particular pet isn’t the best fit, you can return them to our Adoption Center with no pressure or judgment. The pet will continue to receive loving care while waiting for their perfect match. Whatever you choose, our team will support you every step of the way to ensure the best outcome for both you and the pet.
Can I introduce my PAWdition pet to other pets?
You can introduce your PAWdition pet to animals already in their home and to animals they’ll be seeing regularly (like a family member’s dog or a roommate’s cat). However, to help your PAWdition pet settle in safely, until you adopt, you should avoid dog parks and prevent direct introductions with animals the pet doesn’t already know.
